Manufacturing
Utah is among the top five states for manufacturing and logistics, according to a new study. The 2009 Manufacturing and Logistics Report Card was produced by the Ball State University Center for Business & Economic Research. The report lists Utah, Indiana, Missouri, Kansas & Alabama as the top states.
In Utah, manufacturing jobs comprise 9.6 percent of all state employment. In fact, companies who manufacture have added roughly 2,400 jobs from April 2007 to April 2008.
Manufacturing is the fifth largest industry in Utah, employing more than 129,000 people statewide. More than 43 percent of all manufacturing jobs are in Salt Lake County. Salt Lake's location makes it an ideal place to manufacture and ship to most western markets.
